After facing multiple challenges over the last two years, MTN promised to strengthen its leadership team and increase its capacity in areas where it lacked skills.

During the past 12 months, MTN employed a new Group CEO, Rob Shuter, and a new MTN South Africa CEO, Godfrey Motsa.

This was not the end of the leadership changes, however, and the skills improvement at the mobile operator continued.

In December 2016, former Telkom chief marketing officer Enzo Scarcella joined MTN SA as chief operating officer.

Scarcella’s exit from Telkom appeared to spark a trend, with numerous respected Telkom executives following his move.

Telkom’s recent drive to cut staff, using voluntary severance and retirement packages, may have also contributed to executives leaving the company.

The high-profile executives who left Telkom and joined MTN over the past 12 months are listed below.
