Makro acquires WumDrop for three-hour deliveries

Makro has acquired a majority stake in delivery startup WumDrop.

This will shrink the window between placing an order and its delivery from three days to three hours, as long as you are within 20km of a Makro store, it said.

WumDrop will continue to take on new customers and serve its existing clients, including The Foschini Group, Standard Bank, and Zando.

Makro has rolled out WumDrop to 16 stores in Durban, Cape Town, Pretoria, and Johannesburg – and initial results have shown under-3-hours delivery times.

WumDrop offers multiple delivery services, including on-demand, after-hours, and same-day delivery.

The company also launched Deliver 2 Me with The Foschini Group this year, which offers deliveries to you using your smartphone’s location.
