MTN has released its financial results for the year ended 31 December 2017, which show a relatively strong performance for its South African operation.
MTN South Africa’s revenue increased by 3.0% to R42.5 billion, with service revenue increasing 3.9% year-on-year.
The operation also reported improved profitability, with earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) up 9.5% to R14.7 billion.
The big story for MTN South Africa was data revenue, which increased by 25.8% over the past year.
This data growth was supported by an increased investment in the MTN South Africa network, with capital expenditure of R11.5 billion over the year.
“This has resulted in MTN South Africa having the leading data network in the country, according to MyBroadband and P3, and co-best according to Ookla,” said MTN.
Another strong growth area for MTN was digital revenue, which increased by 22.3%.
