The 2011 activeTechPros IT Salary and Skills Report was unveiled recently, using aggregated data from the last year to compile an extensive set of salary data.
The 2011 South African portion of the report is based on the feedback from 1,516 respondents across the country working for companies of varying sizes.
One of the interesting aspects of the report is a comparison of salary levels per city. This data gives an overview of what IT professionals typically earn in certain regions of South Africa.
Unsurprisingly, IT professionals in Gauteng earn the highest salaries, followed by KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape.
At city level, people working in Johannesburg typically out-earn their Pretoria and Cape Town counterparts as shown in the tables below.
|Annual Salary by Job Function and Province (ZAR)|
|Job Function||Gauteng||Western Cape||KwaZulu-Natal|
|Other IT Professionals||330,800||152,000||439,000|
|Annual Salary by Job Function and City (ZAR)|
|Job Function||Johannesburg||Cape Town||Pretoria|
|Other IT Professionals||391,950||330,000||120,000|
