Makro and Game owner appoints former Amazon manager as head of ecommerce
Makro and Game owner Massmart has appointed Srividya Pandya as its new head of ecommerce, effective 1 November 2023.
Pandya previously served at Massmart parent company Walmart, as vice president of strategic integration for Walmart US. She also headed the company’s global omnichannel efforts.
Before joining Walmart, she served in consulting roles and worked at several ecommerce organisations, including Amazon, where she was senior fashion vendor manager.
Speaking on the appointment, Massmart CEO Jonathan Molapo said the company was exceptionally fortunate to have access to Walmart’s global retail talent pool.
“This has been especially evident in the ecommerce area where we continue to be supported by Walmart, resulting in exponential improvement of our group-wide ecommerce capability,” said Molapo.
Pandya’s appointment comes after a three-year secondment of Sylvestor John ended. John was seconded to Massmart from Walmart US, where he was responsible for last-mile delivery.
Since his appointment in November 2020, Massmart said that John helped it accelerate and fully overhaul its online shopping experiences across Makro, Game, and Builders.
Under his leadership, Massmart launched a native Makro shopping app for mobile and rolled out a bespoke Makro business-to-business website.
He also oversaw the acquisition OneCart and Wumdrop, which helped Massmart implement a next-day pickup option and reduce Makro and Game customer delivery lead times.
According to Massmart, its previous typical lead time of 7 days has been slashed to two days for over 85% of orders.
Walmart also assisted Massmart with these efforts through the services of approximately 300 full-time Massmart technologists based in Walmart’s Tech Development Centre in Bangalore, India.
