Takealot offering over 50 jobs

South Africa’s biggest e-commerce retailer, Takealot, is currently advertising dozens of positions, including roles in software engineering, marketing, and data analysis.
Takealot is not only one of South Africa’s biggest websites but also ranks impressively on the global stage.
According to tracking by Similarweb, Takealot.com was the 10th most visited website in South Africa in January 2025 and the 2,154th most visited website in the world.
That is impressive, considering the estimated 1.13 billion websites globally.
Takealot.com also ranked as the 96th most popular e-commerce marketplace in the world.
The Naspers-owned retailer has successfully warded off the initial onslaught of US e-commerce giant Amazon, which launched a local marketplace in May 2024.
As of January 2025, Takealot.com was recording an average of 19.1 million monthly visits over a three-month period, compared with 4.5 million for Amazon.co.za.
Takealot consists of two units — the main Takealot.com division and the Mr D on-demand delivery business.
The company also owned Superbalist until last year, when the fast-fashion clothing retailer was sold to a consortium of retail and private equity investors.
The decision was reportedly due to intensified competition from Chinese e-commerce giants like Shein, which have proven particularly challenging to compete against when it comes to clothing products.
Superbalist’s staff made up a fairly small part of the Takealot Group’s total workforce, with somewhere between 200 and 300 employees at the time of its sale.
Takealot’s remaining 6,500 employees are spread across its Cape Town headquarters, three large distribution centres, 90 branches, and 55 pickup points.
That number excludes most of the 15,000 Takealot and Mr D drivers who work as independent contractors.
Takealot describes its ideal employees as entrepreneurial and dynamic, smart, customer‑centric, and fun.
They must also share the company’s ambition of being the leading e‑commerce company in Africa.
“We have fun, work hard, take ownership, work in teams to create solutions, and are always open to direct feedback or new ideas on where we can improve,” the company explains on its Careers page.
“We are short on ego and high on output. We are doers and not only thinkers — it’s all in the execution after all.
“We love what we do and what we are creating. Join us and become a part of something epic.”
MyBroadband perused the company’s advertised jobs in February 2025 and found a handful of positions for techies.
Takealot.com had 39 jobs available, with Mr D offering a further 14 positions.
Most of Mr D’s jobs were in marketing, sales, and retail. Takealot’s job listings included four in software engineering and several tech-related jobs in its delivery and supply chain segments.
Lastly, there were two positions available in the broader group’s advertising division.
The table below summarises the job listings available in tech or tech-related departments at Takealot on Monday, 17 February 2025.
