South African online shopping giant on hiring spree

South African online shopping giant Takealot is on a hiring spree, listing 40 positions across its e-commerce platform, Mr D delivery service, and group operations.

Available positions include marketing, software engineer, business analyst, and operations manager roles, as well as an internship.

According to Takealot’s website, the group currently employs around 6,500 people and, according to SimilarWeb statistics, was the 13th most-visited website in South Africa in May 2025.

Takealot.com was the 2,178th most-visited website globally, with 17.19 million page visits in May 2025.

It performed exceptionally well compared to other popular e-commerce platforms in South Africa, excluding Temu.com, which is accessed globally:

Takealot is hiring for positions available relating to its e-commerce platform, on-demand delivery service Mr D, and its Group operations.

Those relating to its e-commerce platform include buying, marketing, finance, software development, and various management positions.

The e-commerce giant is looking for a senior marketing manager for its TakealotMORE offering, which it launched in May 2024.

“This groundbreaking subscription service offers millions of South Africans exclusive monthly benefits to eliminate delivery costs and enhance shopping convenience,” it said.

“The subscription service offers fast, free delivery and collect options on Takealot.”

TakealotMORE is a monthly subscription similar to Amazon’s Prime Membership in the US. It provides customers with free delivery and collection for Mr D and Takealot orders.

It offers two subscription tiers, Premium and Standard, priced at R99 and R39 per month.

The successful applicant for the senior marketing manager position at TakealotMORE will manage ongoing promotional marketing campaigns to drive adoption and retention.

They will also own, update, and maintain the TakealotMORE promotional calendar, drive new feature launches, and create sustainable educational content on product features and differentiators.

The company also lists one internship. Catalogue processing interns will be split between Takealot.com and Mr D.

The internship listing also noted that the company likes to “promote from within”.
