MTN Roam like Home launch announced
On Friday, 4 April 2014 MTN will introduce its Roam like Home service that offers pre-paid and contract subscribers set roaming rates in any of the 21 countries that MTN operates in.
These roaming rates resemble the rates MTN charges its pre-paid customers on its Zone Per Second price plan.
In a press release announcing the launch, MTN said that Roam like Home applies to any mobile device on the MTN network, meaning that smartphone, tablet, and laptop users can draw immediate benefit.
MTN said that subscribers just need to ensure that they are roaming on the MTN network when in a country that has an MTN presence, otherwise normal roaming rates will apply.
Local data bundles will also not be depleted while roaming, MTN said.
The rates for MTN Roam like Home are as follows:
- Local voice call: R2.50/minute
- Receiving call: R2.50/minute
- Data: R2.00/MB
- Call back home & international calls: R5.00/minute
These rates apply to MTN contract, top-up, and pre-paid customers, and MTN said that there is also no opt-in fee to access these rates.
According to the MTN website, the network’s footprint extends to the following countries: Afghanistan, Benin, Botswana, Cameroon, Congo Brazzaville, Cote d’Ivoire, Cyprus, Ghana, Guinea-bissau, Guinea Conakry, Iran, Liberia, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Sudan, Swaziland, Syria, Uganda, Yemen, and Zambia.
