iPhone not syncing with Windows 7

Reports have surfaced internationally that iPhones are not syncing correctly in iTunes for selected Windows 7 users.

According to several posts on the official Apple forum the common denominator appears to be Intel’s P55 chipset, which provides support for the manufacturers new core i5 and core i7 processors. Motherboards which incorporate this chipset are allegedly causing USB connection problems when iPhone users attempt to update and manage their devices through iTunes in Windows 7.

Head of the Windows 7 Group at Microsoft South Africa, Colin Erasmus has revealed that no problems have been brought to his attention, adding that in his experience the iPhone syncs without incident in Windows 7.

He did however acknowledge that the problem may indeed exist, in which case it would be elevated to an international level and addressed in the next Windows 7 update. This typically takes place “every first Tuesday of the month”.

Although Mashable has suggested that using a USB hub or a PCI USB card for connecting the iPhone to the computer and disabling the USB ROOT hubs may rectify the problem, this method has not proven successful for all users.

Erasmus suggested that if any local users experience problems they should be reported to Microsoft support where the matter will be investigated further.
