Afrihost planning mobile voice services

Afrihost is planning to provide mobile voice, data, and messaging services on one SIM. This is according to well-placed industry sources.

Afrihost recently launched the Zest T1 Android smartphone, which includes 1GB of mobile data per month for a year, for R1,999 once-off.

This dual-SIM phone uses Afrihost for its data needs, and another SIM can then be used for voice services.

The next step for Afrihost is to launch bundled mobile services – voice, data, and SMS – on a single SIM.

MTN recently acquired a controlling stake in Afrihost, which Afrihost said will give it more muscle to innovate and offer value to its customers.

The strong partnership with MTN will make it easier for Afrihost to offer a wide range of mobile products.

Two well-placed industry sources told MyBroadband that Afrihost is working on such a service, with plans to launch it before the end of the year.

Afrihost CEO Gian Visser confirmed that they “wanted to provide voice, data, and messaging on one SIM for a long time”.

“It has always been our hope to launch this into the market. We believe we can add some exciting innovations that our clients would love,” said Visser. “However, we do not have any specific plans or products as of yet.”
