Prepaid 79c, the promotional pre-paid tariff from Vodacom offering 79c per minute voice calls, has been extended until 19 October 2014, a spokesperson for the operator has said.
Vodacom launched the deal on 1 May, and it was originally set to expire today (Tuesday, 14 July 2014).
The core features of Vodacom’s 79c per minute promotion are as follows:
- Local call rate (any network, any time): R0.79 per minute (billed per second)
- SMS: R0.50
- SMS to Telkom landlines: R0.90
- MMS (300KB or less): R0.80 per MMS
- International SMS: R1.74/SMS (all day)
The price plan is not available to Contract, Top Up, Community Service, or CST Management SIMs.
Vodacom pre-paid subscribers on legacy price plans such as 4U, All Day per Second, All Day per Minute, Per Second Plus, Day Saver, and Vodago who change to Prepaid 79c will not be able to return to their previous price plans.
As one might expect, roaming calls, premium rated calls, SVS Calls, international calls, VAS calls, and fax out calls do not qualify for the 79c per minute rate.
On this price plan you also can’t make use of Power Hour, Chat for 20, Power Bundles, My5, Night Shift, or Everyday Extra.
Prepaid 79c competes against MTN’s 79c per minute pre-paid price plan, which the yellow operator made one of its permanent tariffs earlier this year.
Cell C has launched a promotion of its own at 66c per minute to undercut MTN and Vodacom’s prices, which MTN responded to with a promotional tariff plan that offers 60c per minute voice calls, but which is set to expire on 31 August 2014.
