Free antivirus program to MTN contract customers
MTN today announced that it would be bundling Kaspersky Mobile Security packs on selected Nokia and HTC smartphones for new contract customers in response to “the demand in the consumer and corporate market for adequate mobile protection”.
The increasing popularity of smartphones in the consumer and business market has increased the danger of having sensitive or vital information stolen said the operator.
“By way of example, the SMS Find functionality can locate a lost smartphone by sending an SMS with a password to the lost device, which is then linked to Google Maps to locate the exact coordinates. In addition, the anti-theft module allows the owner of the device to block access to and if necessary, delete the device’s memory simply by sending a password via SMS to the number,” said Teddy Maduna, Senior Manager: Device Portfolio Management of MTN SA.
Another innovative feature, says Maduna, ensures that even if the SIM card is removed, the SIM Watch module sends a hidden message notifying the owner of the new number in the smartphone.
“This function allows the subscriber to delete any data or block the phone, and assists in tracking down the stolen device and returning it to its rightful owner,” Maduna added.
“In today’s connected world, MTN believes that it is paramount that users take the necessary precautions to ensure that their private information is protected and secure. We anticipate that this will deliver the much needed protection and sense of comfort to our smart phone users,” he concluded.
Kaspersky Mobile Solutions 8.0 is compatible with all smartphones that run the Symbian (Nokia) and WinMobile operating systems.
