New revelations in Cell C “most useless service provider” billboard

Cell C has served the person who commissioned the “Cell C – The most useless service provider in SA” billboard and the World Wear Shopping Center where the billboard was erected with letters of demand to remove the billboard.

“Our demands were ignored by both the customer and the centre management at WorldWear Mall and Cell C has launched an urgent application to have the banner removed,” Cell C said.

It is understood that the matter will be heard in the South Gauteng High Court on Monday.

The billboard was erected on Thursday 6 November 2014, which contained Cell C’s official branding and negative messages regarding the company.

On Saturday morning (8 November 2014) Cell C’s branding was removed from the billboard using black tape. The negative messages remained.

On Friday a person called Beverley confirmed that her boss was behind the anti-Cell C billboard.

It later emerged that Beverley is linked to the administration of the World Wear Shopping Center. Her exact position or responsibility at the centre is not currently known.

MyBroadband spoke to people close to the Cell C billboard issue, and they said that George Prokas, who is linked to the World Wear Shopping Center, was behind the billboard.

MyBroadband tried to contact Prokas and Beverley, but they could not be reached by the time of publication.

Cell C was also contacted for comment, but the company would not provide information regarding the person behind the billboard.

Billboard fine print

In her interview with Radio 702 Beverley said that “there is one thing which you do not see clearly on the board”.

We’ve actually said “perceived by the owner of this billboard to be the most useless service provider in South Africa”.

“We were fair. Our boss actually said that it was his perception. He was not going to say that they [Cell C] are the most useless, Beverley told 702.

The following images show the billboard, and the two messages in fine print in front of the claims made.
