Vodacom locks SIMs by accident

MyBroadband received complaints this morning from Vodacom subscribers that their SIM cards have been locked by the cellular provider for no apparent reason.

According to one Vodacom subscriber his number was locked, and when he phoned Vodacom the helpdesk consultant told him that it was done by mistake and that they are busy resolving the issue.

Vodacom has confirmed the problem, saying that a software error in the application that manages SIM card locking resulted in 3000 SIM cards being locked this morning.

“All the affected SIMs have been unlocked and these customers should be able to make/receive calls as usual. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused to these customers,” Vodacom said.
