Data prices declining
Vodacom CEO Shameel Joosub said that the effective price for data declined by 26.5% over the last 12 months.
Despite this decline, Vodacom grew data revenue by 18.8% to R3.5 billion. This revenue growth was driven by an increase of 62.2% in data traffic.
The number of active Vodacom data customers increased to 16.8 million. “We drove data adoption by increasing the number of data-capable devices on our network,” said Joosub.
“The number of active smartphones and tablets on our network grew 23.6% to 9.5 million devices. Average monthly data usage was up 41.1% to 358MB on smartphones,” he said.
