Me&you mobile, which is set to launch its first products on 4 May 2015, will offer an introductory special of unlimited voice calls for R300 per month.
The new Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) said this unlimited voice offer will be available to its first 1,500 subscribers, and it may be extended depending on demand and market feedback.
The service has a fair use agreement to avoid call centres or least-cost routing companies from abusing the offer. However, personal users will be allowed to call as much as the like.
Me&you mobile will also offer a range of month-to-month data bundles, with pricing between 15c per MB (for 1GB and above) and 25c per MB (for bundles below 1GB). Out of bundle rates are 99c per MB.
“me&you mobile was born out of the frustration that people have with mobile networks – expensive packages, complicated contracts that locks one in for 24 months, and poor customer service,” said the operator’s Brett Howell.
The company is planning to set itself apart from other mobile operators by offering South Africans a good value proposition and flexibility, without them needing to sign a traditional contract package.
Me&you will be 100% online, which means people will only be able to purchase products and manage their service through an online portal.
The me&you management console will allow clients to change their packages, top-up, or purchase additional bundles.
Howell said they will target high-end customers who are looking for more flexibility and better value than what they are currently getting from mobile operators.
“By not inflating rates with the cost of a handset, me&you mobile is able to guarantee the most affordable call rates in the country, as well as competitive data rates,” said Howell.
The following in-bundle voice rates will be available:
- R50 package: 69c\min
- R100 package: 69c\min
- R200 package: 59c\min
- R300 package: 0c\min (Free calls)
- R400 package: 49c\min
- R500 package: 39c\min
Out of bundle rates are the same across all packages:
- Voice: 79c\min
- SMS: 60c\SMS
- MMS: 70c\MMS
- Data: 99c\MB
Billing takes place at the end of every month. Users will be billed upfront for their subscription and in arrears for any additional usage.
Users can upgrade or downgrade their month-to-month service at any time. The changes will kick in at the beginning of the next month.
“You can cancel your contract at any time. Any outstanding payments will be charged at the end of the month,” the company said.
