Cell C R10,000 Contract Buy-out “phenomenal” success

Customer response to Cell C’s Contract Buy-out promotion has “exceeded expectations,” a spokesperson for the operator said.
Cell C said the guarantee that prices will not increase during the contract term has resulted in a phenomenal response.
The operator said it will consider disclosing how many people have taken up its contract buy-out offer at the end of Q3 2015.
Cell C launched its Contract Buy-out promotion on 13 May, offering anyone who cancels their contract with another mobile operator up to R10,000 to move to one of its new Epic contracts.
The buy-out amount varies based on the size of the Cell C contract taken up, and whether it is pure post-paid or a hybrid “top-up” package. This is summarised in the table below.
Post-paid and hybrid package | Fee | Post-paid Buy-Out Value | Hybrid Buy-Out value |
Epic 100 | R69 | – | – |
Epic 150 | R99 | – | – |
Epic 200 | R129 | R1,000 | – |

Vodacom said there has been no discernible impact on its subscriber numbers following the launch of the deal, while MTN did not respond to questions by the time of publication.
Cell C maintains the demand has been such that it is likely to extend the promotion, which is scheduled to end on 30 September 2015.
