Cell C’s great comeback after Telkom’s anti-contract buy-out ad

Telkom Vs Cell C

Cell C has hit back at an advertising campaign by Telkom, which took aim at the company’s contract buy-out promotion.

Cell C launched the promotion in May 2015, offering to buy out subscribers’ contracts if they switched from a competing mobile network to one of its new Epic packages.

Telkom mocked the promotion in a radio advertisement, saying: “Recently, we’ve been hearing a lot about cellular companies buying you out. We think that’s a little cheap, to put it bluntly.”

“Customers aren’t carrying around flashing neon signs reading For Sale, are they? That’s why we don’t buy you out, we just offer you the best value for money contracts – simple as that.”

The advertisement then promotes a cellular contract offering a Huawei P8 smartphone, unlimited calls, and 24GB of data for under R400 per month.

“So, if your current cellular company can’t offer you something as good as that, we think it is time you say bye-bye,” the ad states.

Cell C hits back at Telkom’s advertisement

Cell C has responded to Telkom’s advertisement, saying: “We’d like to Tell-Com-Petitors Off, but their customers already did”.

“A competitor recently aired a radio ad saying Contract Buy Out doesn’t offer real value, which is not true at all”.

“Now, the rules say that we’re not allowed to mention their name… So even though we’d like to tell-com-petitors off, we can’t.”

“Thankfully, their customers already did it for us – when they bought themselves out of our competitor’s network with Contract Buy Out to join ours”.

“Because at Cell C we believe that exceptional deals speak louder than words. So go in store and join Cell C, where we will buy you out of your contract for up to R10 000”.
