Free SMS service in SA gaining momentum
FSMS.co.za was launched recently, allowing users to send and receive text messages at no cost from their PC’s and cellphones. The service is available to PC users through a standard web interface and to cellphone users through a WAP site.
The venture is led by 21-year-old chemical engineering honours student Daniel Schwartzkopff and his partner, software engineer and architect, Jörg Wunderlich; and funded by Johnny Graaff, director of the Montrose Foundation in Cape Town.
According to Jörg Wunderlich FSMS signs up 150 new subscribers per day, and to date the company has notched up a user base of 4,240.
Wunderlich added that they send out around 3,000 SMSes per day and receive around 250 replies. To date the company has sent out a total of 24,000 messages.
