Telkom launches carrier billing for Google Play content store

Telkom has launched direct carrier billing for the Google Play content store, which it says is a first for Africa.

“Customers can now purchase movies and other video content direct from the Google Play Store using any Android device, and charge it directly to their Telkom mobile bill or airtime,” stated Telkom.

Telkom first launched integrated carrier billing for the Google Play store on Android smartphones and tablets in August 2015.

Prepaid subscribers may buy apps, movies, music, and books from the Google Play store by using airtime as payment.

Those on contract may have purchases charged directly to their Telkom accounts, instead of paying by credit card.

“Customers can also make in-app purchases, without interruption to the app experience,” said Telkom.
