Cell C mobile broadband arrives in George

Cell C today switched on its HSPA+ network in George today, giving residents access to its aggressively priced 7.2 Mbps and 21 Mbps mobile broadband services.

The latest Cell C HSPA+ launch follows the company’s rollouts over the last two months, starting in Port Elizabeth, then Bloemfontein, East London, Cape Town and Durban. A full coverage map is available here: http://www.cellc.co.za/coveragemap

According to Cell C, 87% of the George metro area has UMTS 900 coverage as of today.

“With customers paying as little as R83 for 2GB per month for unparalleled high-speed internet access, Cell C’s new network is the most advanced on the African continent,” Cell C said in a press statement.

Over 1900 HSPA+ transmitters are on air across the country, being tested and optimised, said Cell C. This is up from the 1600 sites Cell C said they had when they first launched in East London in September.

Cell C said that in real use conditions its HSPA+ network shows average speeds of between 6Mbps to 7Mbps in downloads and speeds of between 1.5Mbps to 2.5Mbps for uploads, with a maximum theoretical throughput of 21Mbps.
