MTN data downtime

Many MTN subscribers are reporting downtime of data services and problems reaching MTN’s helpdesk.

MyBroadband has received information from users in Samrand, Fourways, Durban, Edenvale, and Woodmead about downtime on the MTN data network.

MTN subscribers have also used Twitter to notify the mobile operator of downtime on its network.

Downdetector shows a significant increase in the number of reported problems on MTN’s network.

MyBroadband contacted MTN for feedback regarding the network problems, but the company could not immediately provide comment.

Afihost Mobile affected

Afrihost stated that its clients were also experiencing errors when trying to access Afrihost Mobile Data – which runs on MTN’s network.

“Affected clients may experience limited or no connectivity, even though their APN may appear to be connected, which may affect a range of online services like web browsing, WhatsApp, etc.”

“We are working with our upstream provider to find the cause of the problem and aim to restore services as quickly as possible.”

Update: MTN working on restoring data connectivity

At 16:30, MTN confirmed it had experienced data connectivity issues which started at 14:00.

“Engineers are still busy investigating the issue and have established some level of stability, but the investigations are still ongoing,” said MTN.

“The network is busy recovering so services will be restored intermittently. MTN wishes to apologise to affected customers.”
