T-Mobile-SA proactive initiatives to solve billing problems

MyBroadband recently reported that many Wireless Application Service Providers (WASPs) continue to bill cellular users incorrectly.

According to the latest Wireless Application Service Provider Association (WASPA) complaints report-providers like Buongiorno UK! and TIMw.e. New Media have been on the wrong side of WASPA rulings more than once.

A provider which was specifically mentioned in the recent article is T-Mobile-SA  which was involved in three WASPA complaints of which two were dismissed.

MyBroadband received complaints of incorrect billing which formed the basis of the article, but subsequent information from T-Mobile –SA explains the problems in more depth.

T-Mobile-SA,  CEO Botha Lebepe explains that technical problems caused erroneous billing of numerous subscribers sitting within T-Mobile –SA bulk SMS data base.  It was therefore not fraudulent billing, but rather a glitch which extended to subscriber accounts.

This technical malfunction caused headaches for T-Mobile -SA, but the company took pro-active steps to limit the impact of the technical problems and to guard against future problems of this nature.

T-Mobile-SA  indicated that it has established 24/7 hot and cold backups are running according to the database high availability for disaster management.

T-Mobile-SA has further established dedicated databases for every service provider (hence Vodacom, MTN and Cell C) to ensure that the one provider could not affect other providers through their actions.

Lebepe further said that T-Mobile-SA  has proactively been engaging corrective measures to make sure that all subscribers have been refunded.

The problem with two clients who raised concerns that they have been incorrectly billed and have not been refunded has also been addressed, said Lebepe.

“The one subscriber has been refunded a long time ago while the other subscriber will be refunded before the end of this month,” said Lebepe.
