How Cell C’s new Trade In Trade Up offer works

Cell C Trade In Trade Up

Cell C is running a trade-in programme for old cellphones and tablets which it calls Trade In Trade Up.

It is available to new and existing customers, who may bring in their old devices and redeem the trade-in value for Cell C airtime, accessories, deals, or a discount on their monthly contract fee.

Cell C said customers can visit any of its walk-in centres or stores to access the deal.

Trade-in prices and terms

Devices are only accepted on trade-in provided they appear on Cell C’s trade-in list, which is available in-store.

Trade-in value is determined by the make, model, capacity, and condition of the device. The device may not be blacklisted.

If you trade in a new device, do not expect to receive a trade-in value equal to its price.

Cell C said the trade-in value is not based on the age of the device, but whether the device is in a working condition or not. Factors influencing the value include:

  • If it has cracked casing or heavy dents, you will receive a 35% deduction from the system price.
  • If the LCD and touchscreen is damaged, you will receive a 75% deduction.
  • If the phone is heavily damaged and does not switch on, a 90% deduction from the system price applies.

Contract customers may trade in a maximum of five devices per transaction. A prepaid customer can trade in two devices per transaction.

If you trade in a device to buy a new one, only to find your new one isn’t in stock, you will not be able to get your old phone back.

Redeeming trade-in value

The value you receive for a traded-in device may be redeemed in different ways.

You must redeem the total trade-in value through one of the following four methods:

  1. Cash, which is loaded on a gift card.
  2. Reduce your monthly contract subscription, or trade in your old device for a newer device with a discounted subscription on specific deals.
  3. Pay off your cellphone bills.
  4. Airtime.
