Prepaid price shootout: Vodacom vs MTN vs Cell C vs Telkom

Research ICT Africa (RIA) has released its Prepaid Pricing Trends in South Africa – Q2 2016 report, which shows that Cell C has the best price for voice and SMS services.

The report further showed that Telkom has the best prepaid price for 1GB of mobile data.

RIA measures the cost of communication by mapping African mobile prepaid pricing trends of its voice and SMS basket index and of the RIA 1GB data basket index.

Both baskets analyse the lowest price of a basket of voice and SMS services, and of 1GB of mobile data.

• Voice and SMS basket – 30 voice calls for a total of 58 minutes and 100 SMS per basket per month
• 1GB basket – monthly cost of 1GB of data based on prepaid data top-ups or bundle top-ups.
