Telkom’s 29c per MB rate shows how expensive Vodacom and MTN are

Telkom recently launched its FreeMe mobile products, which offer subscribers data-focussed products with free texts, free IM calls, free calls to Telkom Mobile and Telkom Fixed Line numbers, and free Wi-Fi.

FreeMe contract prices range between R99 for a 1GB package to R999 for an unlimited package, with the latter including calls to other networks.

“Telkom FreeMe offers our customers smartphone plans that liberate them from everything they’ve ever hated about their network,” said Telkom Consumer CEO Attila Vitai.

The out-of-bundle rates on FreeMe contracts are low: R0.69 per minute for voice calls and R0.29 per MB of data.

The 29c per MB is significantly lower than Vodacom, MTN, and Cell C’s current prices, as shown in the table below.
