MTN is “actively preparing documentation” to meet the deadline for enquiries for Icasa’s spectrum auction.

MTN made the statement as part of its group interim financial results for the six months ended 30 June 2016.

“On 15 July 2016, Icasa published an invitation to apply for high-demand spectrum, in the 700MHz, 800Mhz, and 2.6GHz spectrum bands,” said MTN.

“There are four lots on offer with a reserve price of R3 billion. MTN has been analysing the invitation and is actively preparing documentation to meet the deadline.”

MTN said it has noted reports that the Minister of Telecommunications and Postal Services intends to challenge Icasa regarding the invitation to apply for spectrum.

Icasa subsequently defended its move to launch the broadband spectrum auction.

“MTN will continue to monitor the developments.”
