Android versus iOS in South Africa
Vodacom’s trading update for the quarter ended 30 June 2016 show that the company increased its active subscriber base in South Africa by 5.4% to 35.1 million.
Vodacom has also seen strong growth in smart devices on its local network, with 14.058 million active smartphones and tablets.
Smartphones account for 80.9% of smart devices on the Vodacom network, tablets account for 12%, and data cards and modems sit on 7%.
Android is by far the most popular smartphone operating system, followed by BlackBerry and iOS.
Android is also the most popular mobile OS for tablets, with the iPad second.
