Health services on your mobile phone
MTN today announced that they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sanlam Health to roll out mHealth services from the first quarter of 2011.
mHealth is the practice of medical and public health, supported by mobile devices. mHealth applications include the use of mobile devices in collecting community and clinical health data, delivery of healthcare information to practitioners, researchers, and patients, real-time monitoring of patient vital signs and direct provision of care via mobile telemedicine.
Although no details of the mHealth solutions will be available until products are ready for roll out to the market, both MTN and Sanlam said that they think these products will “revolutionise the healthcare industry in South Africa and other markets”.
“The partnership makes commercial sense for MTN as the company is in the process of assessing potential healthcare solutions in a bid to diversify its value proposition to its current and future subscribers across its footprint in Africa and the Middle East,” MTN said in a press statement.
