MTN must allow departing customers to keep their numbers

MTN has been ordered by the Johannesburg High Court to allow customers to keep their phone numbers when leaving the network.
According to a report by Bloomberg, MTN previously blocked customers from retaining their mobile numbers if they did not apply for a transfer within a certain time frame.
Cell C challenged the policy, and the court ruled in favour of Cell C today.
“MTN takes note of the judgement and can confirm that we will comply with the contents,” it said.
MTN said it will refer the matter to ICASA.
