Attack on MTN data centre caused outage
MTN has stated that a nationwide outage impacting certain services earlier today was caused by an attack on its data centre.
“MTN can confirm that it detected a brief and intermittent data interruption as a result of an attack on its data centre,” said Sidney Arnold, general manager for network operations at MTN.
Arnold said the interruption affected WhatsApp services.
“Data services have been fully restored. The interruption was restored in 30 minutes.”
