How much Vodacom subscribers really pay for voice calls

Vodacom has released its interim results for the six months ended 30 September 2016, which show that the effective price for voice calls on its network is 48c per minute.

Known as the blended rate, which includes all calls on the Vodacom network, the price decreased from 56c per minute in September 2015 to 48c per minute in September 2016.

The effective prepaid call rate is now 33c per minute, down from 39c per minute a year ago.

Vodacom CEO Shameel Joosub previously said the strong growth in mobile data usage means they can reduce contract and prepaid subscribers’ voice rates.

He also said that lower contract voice rates are achieved by moving subscribers to new plans.

The graph below shows the effective Vodacom blended call rate, in cents, over the last four years.
