Vodacom Multi Data SIM: 5 SIMs per contract

Vodacom confirmed today that their contract customers can add up to four additional SIM (subscriber identity module) cards to their account after details emerged on the MyBroadband forums.

This will allow Vodacom contract customers to make use of their data bundles on their PC, smartphone, or tablet and receive one consolidated bill at the end of the month, Vodacom said.

The five SIMs can be used simultaneously and will each have a unique phone number associated with them. However, the four Multi Data SIMs will not be enabled for voice calls on the Vodacom network.

According to Vodacom, a BlackBerry service can only be active on one of the SIMs at a time.

Vodacom’s multi data service is only available to contract customers and every extra SIM added will attract a monthly subscription of R9.

The R9 monthly subscription is a promotional price, Vodacom emphasised.

A once-off SIM and activation fee is also applicable, which Vodacom said can differ between service providers.

Vodacom contract subscribers who wish to make use of the Multi Data SIM offer will keep their current price plan and the additional costs associated with the service will be charged against the primary SIM.

Since the SIMs all belong to the same contract, they are also considered to belong to the same contract holder.
