Vodacom unveiled its new Red and Smart+ packages this week, promising subscribers more voice and data.
The Red packages are targeted at the top-end of Vodacom’s customer base, and include additional benefits such as premium service desk support.
“Vodacom has increased the prices of all its Smart+ packages in return for some additional voice minutes,” said Tariffic in its analysis of the contracts.
“Data, however, is the man of the hour, and it seems that Vodacom, for the most part, hasn’t done anything to quench the thirst of the data-hungry masses.”
Tariffic did note that the Red More Data package – for R749 per month – was a good data deal, as it includes 10GB of data and 150 minutes.
Vodacom stated that the prices also include a device subsidy.
The remaining Red packages are being offered at the same price as before, but include more data.
Tariffic said Vodacom was still lagging behind other networks offering data-centric packages, and that it showed a reluctance to compete when it comes to price.
