T-Mobile rolling out 600MHz LTE network
T-Mobile has started using its new 600MHz LTE network, leveraging the low-band spectrum won in a US government broadcast incentive auction.
T-Mobile’s first 600MHz LTE sites were switched on in Cheyenne, Wyoming using Nokia equipment.
Starting in rural America, and other markets where the spectrum is clear of broadcasting, T-Mobile plans to deploy at a fast pace.
What would normally be a two-year process from auction to consumer availability will now take six months.
T-Mobile said it is working with infrastructure providers, chipset makers, and device manufacturers to bring 600MHz LTE to customers at a faster pace.
Nokia and Qualcomm have launched new technology, and Samsung and LG plan to launch phones that tap into the new spectrum in Q4 2017.
