Update: Vodacom stated that data and USSD services have been restored.
Original article: Vodacom’s data network in multiple parts of Gauteng experienced downtime on Saturday afternoon, according to user reports.
Down Detector showed a spike in user downtime reports from around 14:00.
Vodacom Support’s Twitter page was flooded with complaints from users that they could not access data services or the *111# USSD menu.
MyBroadband tested data services on the Vodacom network in the Northgate area at 14:00 and could not access websites or use smartphone applications.
A Vodacom user added that their airtime and data was showing a zero balance, and asked if “vanishing data” problems had hit the network once again.
Vodacom replied to the user on Twitter, stating it was aware of the issue.
Vodacom told MyBroadband it is aware that certain customers are experiencing data connectivity issues and cannot access USSD services.
“Our engineers are currently attending to the outage. We apologise for the inconvenience that this has caused,” said Vodacom.
