POCiT launches payments App for Android

Following the launch of a mobile payments app by FNB past week, POCiT has revealed their latest application for Android, dubbed POCiT Ultimate.

POCiT Ultimate takes an ‘open platform’ approach to the banking, and is compatible with all banks, cellphone networks and phone types (as long as they run the Android platform).

“Increasingly we have fielded enquiries from Android users asking for a POCiT app,” said David Reynders, POCiT MD. “This is not surprising bearing in mind the growth in smartphone popularity.”

POCiT Ultimate includes the following features:

  • Pay off accounts such as clothing accounts and utility bills
  • Pay off Mastercard and Visa credit cards
  • Send and transfer money between accounts
  • Buy electricity and airtime

POCiT is free to download for users with Android version 1.5 and up, and is currently available from the Android Marketplace.

POCiT has extended its rich payment functionality to Android by introducing POCiT Ultimate(tm) for Android. This follows hot on the heels of FNB’s app launch last week.

In 2009, POCiT was the first South African mobile payments company to launch a Java based mobile payments application. “Increasingly we have fielded enquiries from Android users asking for a POCiT app,” says David Reynders, POCiT MD. “This is not surprising bearing in mind the growth in smartphone popularity.” Android is poised to be the dominant player in Worldwide Smartphone Operating Systems. According to a Gartner report published in April 2011 “Android will move to become the most popular operating system worldwide and will build on its strength to account for 49 percent of the smartphone market by 2012.”

David Reynders notes that “the appeal of Android lay not only with its growing authority in the mobile OS space, but also with its ‘open platform’ philosophy that mirrors POCiT’s ‘open platform’ philosophy that allows anyone to use, irrespective of bank, cellphone network provider or phone.”

“To this end, we realized that whilst apps offer the best security and user experience, not everyone is willing or able to use one yet. To meet users where they are we introduced a streamlined USSD and mobile web payment process, called POCiT Quick(tm) that makes it really easy for any customer with any phone to view and pay their bills securely.”

Equally important to accessibility is ease of use and richness of experience. POCiT Ultimate(tm) meets all these criteria. Customers can immediately and securely pay their clothing accounts and utility bills from their bank account or Master and Visa credit card. You can also send and transfer money, buy airtime and electricity.
