Cell C suffers voice downtime

Several Cell C users have reported an issue that has left them unable to make voice calls.

Users began reporting the issue with Cell C’s network at 15:00 on Friday on Cell C’s DownDetector page.

Attempts to make a voice call do not ring, meaning the call is never placed. This makes it impossible for affected Cell C customers to contact users on any network through cellular calls.

There is also a problem with the USSD menu on Cell C’s network, with many affected users stating they are unable to check their airtime and data balances.

However, mobile data usage appears to be functional as per usual, allowing Cell C customers to access messaging platforms such as WhatsApp and browse the Internet.

DownDetector showed a high concentration of problems in urban centres including Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban, and Port Elizabeth.

Cell C told MyBroadband that the issues were isolated to certain parts of the country.

“Cell C can confirm that 2G and 3G voice and data services were affected for some customers in the North West region and some in the Northern part of Pretoria.”

“Technicians have resolved the problem and all services have been restored to affected customers. Cell C apologises for any inconvenience caused,” Cell C said.
