MTN talking to Telecom Italia?

Forbes reported today that Telecom Italia ‘could be interested in a tie-up with South African mobile phone operator MTN Group.’  The news was first published by the Corriere della Sera newspaper.

“MTN, Africa’s biggest mobile carrier, could open up a growing market for Telecom Italia, the newspaper said, citing ‘certain rumours’,” Forbes reported.

There are potential synergies between the two companies, including Telecom Italia’s fixed-line expertise which can assist MTN in their plans to deploy a national fibre network.
