MTN has the best mobile voice network in Limpopo

MTN has the top mobile voice network in Limpopo according to the recent MyBroadband Insights Voice Testing Project.

The project analysed the performance of MTN, Vodacom, Telkom, and Cell C from 15 May to 4 July based on KPIs like Call Setup Time, Call Setup Success Ratio, Dropped Call Ratio, and Speech Quality Mean Opinion Score (MOS).

The project comprised over 633 hours of call data from South Africa’s large cities, secondary cities, smaller towns, and major roads — amounting to over 10,000 kilometres travelled.

Originating and terminating stations used throughout this process were each equipped with Android devices running custom firmware designed to record accurate voice network data.

The data was then collated based on the specifications of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI).

MTN was the top performer in Limpopo with an overall score of 70.2 — closely followed by Vodacom with a score of 70.1.

MTN had the best Call Setup Success Ratio at 98.3%, while Vodacom had the best call Setup Time at only 1.51 seconds.

Telkom and Cell C shared the highest Speech Quality MOS of 4.07/5, and Telkom also boasted the best Dropped Call Ratio of only 0.3%.
