Android smartphones with the fastest mobile network speeds in South Africa

New research from network intelligence firm MyBroadband Insights revealed that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 routinely enjoys the best average download speeds among Android users in South Africa.
Additionally, 9 out of 10 of the fastest download speeds recorded were on Samsung devices, with the Galaxy A34 taking the lead.
This is based on data collected from the MyBroadband Speed Test app over the fourth quarter of 2024.
MyBroadband’s Speed Test app is ad-free and can be downloaded for free from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
It provides South Africans with an easy way to test their mobile network speeds, including download speeds, upload speeds, latency, and signal strength.
South Africans can then use the MyBroadband Speed Test app results to rate their satisfaction with their ISP.

Top mobile network speeds
MyBroadband Insights analysed the download speeds achieved by Android smartphones to determine which devices performed best.
The results revealed that Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 users enjoy higher average download speeds in South Africa at 246Mbps.
The top 10 results also featured a wide range of Android devices, including Samsung, Honor, Xiaomi, Vivo, and Huawei, showing that one particular brand isn’t dominant when it comes to average download speeds in the South African market.
The Honor 200 Pro achieved the second-fastest average download speed at 240Mbps, with the Xiaomi 12 Lite in third place at 210Mbps.
MyBroadband Insights also analysed the best peak download speeds and found that, unlike the average speeds, the top 10 highest speeds were mostly recorded by Samsung devices.
The maximum download speed was achieved on a Samsung Galaxy A34, which hit 1,051Mbps.
Interestingly, the Galaxy A34 retails for just R6,000, while every other smartphone in the top 10 was a high-end flagship device worth significantly more.
The top three fastest devices all broke the 1Gbps barrier, with the Samsung Galaxy S22 hitting 1,036Mbps and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 reaching 1,026Mbps.
The only other brand to make the top 10 was Huawei, with its P40 Pro reaching 839Mbps.
