Vodacom price increases announced

Vodacom has begun notifying contract customers to prepare for price increases on 1 February 2026, stating that these are necessary to continue investing in its network.

The following contract plans will be impacted by the price increase: RED Integrated, RED Flexi, RED VIP, Home Internet (FWA), Mobile Broadband (SIM-only data), and legacy plans.

“The adjustment reflects ongoing inflationary pressures and rising network and operating costs, alongside continued investment to maintain and improve network quality and reliability,” a Vodacom spokesperson told MyBroadband.

“In the current financial year, Vodacom South Africa plans to invest approximately R12 billion to expand 4G and 5G coverage, strengthen network resilience, and improve customer experience.”

Vodacom stated that its network investments include rollouts in underserved and rural communities, ensuring that no one is left behind.

Vodacom also said that its network investments enabled it to deploy stronger power backup systems, meaning more subscribers can remain connected during electricity outages.

It has also invested in its data network, allowing subscribers to stream and browse seamlessly with faster 4G and 5G speeds.

Vodacom also promised subscribers that it was spending money on customer service channels so users can get easy, effortless help with extra digital support.

Vodacom’s notice to customers comes a day after MTN informed many of its contract subscribers about increases to its consumer contract pricing, also effective 1 February.

Customers who signed up for a new contract from 1 November 2025 will be given a grace period before their price increases take effect.

“You’ve joined us during our annual price increase period, however we do understand your cost pressures,” Vodacom stated.

“That’s why all new and upgrading customers will be given a two-month grace period.”

Black Friday deals and promotions are granted the same grace period. Price increases for all subscribers who took out a new contract between 1 November and 31 December will kick in on 1 March 2026.

Vodacom also explained that the price increases affect all postpaid customers, including those whose contracts had matured and were on month-to-month plans.

“Those out of contract may experience higher costs because of promotional add-ons and discounts falling away at the end of the contract term,” it cautioned.
