MTN has joined the Ubuntu Carrier Advisory Group (CAG), a body which lets mobile operators shape Ubuntu’s mobile strategy.
Canonical announced the formation of the Ubuntu Carrier Advisory Group (CAG) on 18 June 2013.
Founding members of the CAG include Deutsche Telekom, Korea Telecom, Telecom Italia, LG UPlus, Portugal Telecom, and SK Telecom.
CAG members have access to early information about Ubuntu and device manufacturer plans to support the OS.
CAG members also have the opportunity to be a launch partner and gain the right to ship Ubuntu in markets they serve.
MTN has a significant number of business customers who can benefit from Ubuntu’s convergence and security capabilities.
Pieter Verkade, Chief Commercial Officer at MTN Group said: “Today’s phones are so much more than just telephones and Ubuntu will be able to meet needs of operators and handset manufacturers looking to take advantage of the latest technology and cutting costs.”
