8ta More advert before ASA again
An advertisement aired on SABC2 which claimed that 8ta More offers call rates of 95c/minute, billed per second, was recently accused of being misleading in a complaint to the Advertising Standards Authority of South Africa (ASA).
This consumer complaint comes after Cell C lodged a successful competitor complaint with the ASA earlier in 2013.
In its report on the complaint, the ASA Directorate summarised the complaint as follows:
- The actual tariff is R1.95/minute, but a person who purchases air-time for R5 or more will be awarded double his purchased amount in air-time; and
- the bonus airtime must be used in 7 days.
Responding to the complaint, Telkom said that the ad in question was not being flighted, but would amend it accordingly should it be used in future.
The ASA accepted the undertaking from Telkom on condition that the commercial in question is not used again in its current format.
