Telkom data centre power outage

Telkom

One of Telkom’s data centres in Centurion experienced issues with its power supply on the morning of Thursday, 2 October 2014, a spokesperson for the company has confirmed.

A source familiar with the incident told MyBroadband that power in the centre dipped at around 05:00 and again at around 09:15.

The interruption to the data centre’s power supply affected a number of services, including some of Telkom’s e-mail servers, the source said.

Asked for comment on the issue, Telkom said that the incident was due to a failure of an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) unit.

“Power was maintained through alternative UPS configurations,” Telkom said. “Only customers with equipment that was not dual-connected to alternative power feeds were impacted.”

Telkom said that it continuously works with its customers to rectify such configurations when identified.

“Incident reports will be submitted to impacted customers as per our standard operational procedure,” Telkom said.
