Eskom load shedding takes down Internet Solutions data centre
Internet Solutions told clients on the morning of 6 February 2015 that its data centre in Randview had initiated an emergency shutdown.
The area had been loadshed, and the generators had failed to kick in, according to an IS status report.
Hosting and MPLS VPN services were affected and clients were instructed to shut down their equipment before the batteries in their uninterruptible power supplies ran out.
Internet Solutions provided updates via Twitter, confirming that the generator failure was not due to a power surge and that mechanical failures are being investigated.
At the time of publication, Internet Solutions reported that its Communications-as-a-Service platform was still not fully restored, but that all other services were back online.
“Internet Solutions experienced a critical and unprecedented power failure at one of its data centres this morning,” a spokesperson for the company said when asked for feedback about the incident.
The company said that clients were immediately informed, and their established procedures for corrective action were activated.
“Internet Solutions has been working to resolve the issue, with the majority of clients now restored,” the spokesperson said.
