Teraco is building Africa’s largest data centre, said the company, adding a 17,500sqm extension to its existing colocation offering.

Teraco said the build is a milestone for Teraco and the African data centre industry, with the construction bringing the total size of its Isando, Gauteng facility to 9,000sqm of white space and 18,500sqm of utility space.

Teraco’s new site should be operational towards the end of 2016, said the company.

“After completing an environmental impact assessment, Teraco was granted permission to store 210,000 litres of diesel on site,” said Teraco.

This will enable Teraco to run all the data centres for a minimum period of 40 hours at maximum load in the event of power failure.
