New IBM mainframe encrypts everything

IBM Mainframe

IBM has revealed its new Z mainframe system, which can automatically encrypt all data associated with an app or service.

The company said the new Z has 18-times more power than conventional systems based on x86 processors, allowing it to keep data safe.

The Z mainframe also has the ability to destroy encryption keys if tampering or interference is detected – encrypting the programming interfaces which link the apps and services.

Standout statistics of the Z include:

  • 32TB of memory.
  • 3-times faster I/O and accelerated transaction processing (compared to the z13).
  • The ability to run Java workloads 50% faster than x86 alternatives.
