CipherWave CEO Shamith Maharaj recently spoke at the 2024 MyBroadband Cloud and Security Conference, where he discussed CipherWave’s cloud hosting and business continuity solutions.

Maharaj has a diverse software development and network engineering background spanning two decades.

In this time, he worked at several of South Africa’s most prominent ICT companies, including serving as the Vice President of Global Network Operations for CMC Networks.

After almost 15 years with CMC Networks, Maharaj joined Exploring New Opportunities as a Telecommunications Executive before joining BCX.

He spent four years as the Executive for Data Networks at BCX, before joining CipherWave in 2023.

Maharaj stepped into the role of CipherWave CEO in November 2023 after briefly serving as the company’s Chief Business Development Officer.

Conference presentation

At the 2024 MyBroadband Cloud and Security Conference, Maharaj discussed CipherWave’s partnership with WIOCC and Africa’s fastest-growing data centre company, Open Access Data Centres (OADC).

“We have been looking for a partner that offers us the scalability we need to remain relevant,” said Maharaj.

He highlighted the key elements of this partnership, including secure colocation and enhanced connectivity, as well as OADC’s large footprint across Africa.

“OADC has 30 edge centres, and this enables us to serve our customers as close as possible to where they are,” said Maharaj.

“We are looking to scale our business into Africa, and having a partnership where we can leverage an African footprint lets us access key markets like Nigeria, the DRC, and the Ivory Coast.”

Unlocking business potential

Maharaj then explained how CipherWave empowers South African businesses through its scalable cloud hosting solutions.

These comprise a wide range of services that are packaged by CipherWave to form end-to-end solutions.

“We can bring your existing application stack into our facilities, reducing potential disruptions to how you currently work,” added Maharaj.

He then highlighted the core cloud offerings provided by CipherWave, including its business continuity and various “as-a-service” solutions, including:

  • Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)
  • Software as a Service (SaaS)
  • Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS)
  • Backup as a Service (BaaS)
  • Office 365
  • Mimecast

He explained the benefits of partnering with CipherWave for each solution, including reduced downtime, enhanced security, simplified management, superior scalability, and proactive risk management.
