Cybersmart doubling hosting storage
Cybersmart will double the storage space on its hosting packages from 1 November 2013, the Internet service provider’s CEO, Laurie Fialkov, has told MyBroadband.
Fialkov said that they are able to offer the free upgrade thanks to the drop in SAIX local bandwidth prices recently announced by Telkom.
“SAIX acquires more content from us than we take from them, so in a bizarre twist we actually pay SAIX for their users to fetch content from us,” Fialkov said.
With a cost reduction on SAIX local, Fialkov said that Cybersmart gets more bandwidth for the same price. “We don’t actually get a discount because we are in contract,” Fialkov explained.
Since the amount of content served is a function of the disk space you provide to the customer, Fialkov said, a price break lets them offer hosting customers more space.
The increase also applies to DSL subscribers that receive free hosting from Cybersmart.
Another possible change is that they might drop their “Blue” package because none of Cybersmart’s customers seem to take it, Fialkov said.
This means that Cybersmart’s website hosting packages will change as follows:
- Pink (Free): 600MB disk space
- Yellow (R38/month): 4GB disk space
- Green (R48/month): 10GB disk space
- Aqua (R98/month): 20GB disk space
